TVs for 2022 represent the absolute pinnacle of what smart TV technology is capable of. They have detailed screens, colorful HDR, and robust feature sets, including support for HDMI 2.1 and VRR in many cases for the latest game consoles and PCs.
With the latest smart TVs from LG, Samsung, Sony, TCL, and Vizio arriving (gently) on our reviewers’ doorsteps in recent months, we’ve been diving into groundbreaking new OLED TVs, mini-LED TVs, and even the new QD-OLED technology. However, because a large number of sets from 2021 are still available, we have included older models in our buying guide. They are heavily discounted, sometimes by up to 40% or 50%, making them excellent buys today.

The LG C2 OLED reclaims the top spot on our list of the best TVs in 2022 after falling a few spots in 2021. This is due to a number of enhancements LG made to this year’s model over the LG C1 OLED.
The new Alpha a9 Gen 5 processor, which designs to offer better object enhancement and dynamic tone mapping than its predecessor, is one of the improvements for 2022. You also get ‘virtual surround sound,’ with the TV upscaling stereo content into the 7.1.2-channel sound. While the claims of virtual surround sound did not convince us, the audio performance is adequate for a flatscreen TV.
In addition to these enhancements, the C2 OLED retains the C1 OLED’s four separate HDMI 2.1 ports, making it the ideal companion for the PS5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S.
The LG C2 isn’t without flaws. When comparing to the new QD-OLED models, off-axis color saturation does diminish slightly when moving to the left or right of the screen, and LG does not support either the IMAX Enhanced or HDR10+ formats.
SPECIFICATIONS | Screen size: 55-inch, 65-inch, 75-inch Resolution: 4K Panel Type: QLED Smart TV: Roku TV HDR: HDR10, HLG, Dolby Vision |
BEST DEALS OF THE DAY REASONS TO BUY | Mini LED backlighting color quantum dots |
AVOIDANCE REASONS | Poor motion handling Middle peak brightness |
We were surprised to learn that the TCL 6-Series 2020 QLED (R635) would use Mini LED. That’s because, just a year ago, the same technology was introduced in the high-end 8-Series, which cost hundreds of dollars more than the ultra-affordable 6-Series.
Due to its limited brightness and poor motion handling, it isn’t the end-all, be-all LED-LCD we hoped for, but it is an exceptional value that we’d recommend to nearly everyone.
SPECIFICATIONS | Screen size: 55-inch, 65-inch Resolution: 4K Panel technology: OLED Smart TV: SmartCast HDR: HDR10, Dolby Vision, HLG, HDR10+ |
BEST DEALS OF THE DAY REASONS TO BUY | Dolby Vision and HDR10+ support Les expensive than LG OLED |
AVOIDANCE REASONS | Upscaling could be better Not as bright as other OLEDs |
Last year’s Vizio OLED TV 2020 – officially known as the H1 – is a less expensive alternative to the more premium screens produced by LG and Sony in recent years. For those on a tight budget, the Vizio OLED has most of the same key features and offers largely comparable performance to other OLEDs for hundreds of dollars less.
Of course, as an OLED screen, the Vizio OLED has some significant advantages (as well as a few flaws) that are worth mentioning right away. In the former category, we have exceptional black levels and extremely thin chassis, with the additional benefits of OLED being exceptional contrast and wider viewing angles, which most people appreciate.
SPECIFICATIONS | Screen size: 65-inch, 75-inch, 85-inch Resolution: 8K Panel Type: Neo QLED / Mini LED Smart TV: Tizen HDR: HDR10, HLG, HDR10+ |
BEST DEALS OF THE DAY REASONS TO BUY | Increased backlighting accuracy Excellent colors Dolby Atmos built-in |
AVOIDANCE REASONS | No Dolby Vision support A step backward in the new ‘Smart Hub’ UI Limited 8K content |
Some may consider 8K to be excessive, but there’s no doubt in our minds that the Samsung QN900B Neo QLED 8K TV is on another level of performance. Samsung’s QN900B Neo QLED 8K TV with Mini LED offers stunning picture quality, exceptional color and brightness, fantastic sound, and outstanding blacks – all in an unrivaled design package.
For the uninitiated, Samsung’s ‘Quantum’ Mini LEDs are 1/40th the thickness of a regular LED, which means thousands of smaller LEDs can pack together much more tightly, allowing for far more accurate dimming zones and black levels that are practically indistinguishable from an OLED.
SPECIFICATIONS | Screen size: 55-inch, 65-inch, 77-inch, 83-inch Resolution: 4K Panel Type: OLED Evo Smart TV: WebOS HDR: HDR10, HLG, Dolby Vision |
BEST DEALS OF THE DAY REASONS TO BUY | Beautifully bright, vibrant images Beautiful premium design |
AVOIDANCE REASONS | There is no included stand and HDR10+ support is not available. |
If price isn’t an issue for you and you simply want the best TV you can buy at any price point, then the LG G2 OLED is for you. The OLED65G2 uses its extra brightness to make nearly every frame of any source you can think of look even better than it did on any previous LG OLED.
Despite having the same ‘Gallery’ design name as its GX and G1 predecessors, the G2 OLED looks completely different: The dark frame and chamfered edges are replaced by a clever two-layer effect in which a thin black rear’slab’ sits proud of and slightly narrower than a chunkier front tier housing the screen, which is encased in a very appealing and opulent-looking silver.

BEST DEALS OF THE DAY REASONS TO BUY | HDMI 2.1 with 4K 120Hz and VRR Full-bodied sound Best-in-class image quality |

There’s little doubt in our minds that the new Sony X90J is one of the best televisions available for gamers.
It has excellent image quality, thanks in part to the new Cognitive XR processor that roll out to Sony’s top TVs for 2022 sets, which allows for excellent upscaling and contrast control. The X90J also includes the new Google TV smart platform, which allows for simple setup and broad app support, as well as the advantages of Google Cast from Android devices. Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio are also included.

BEST DEALS OF THE DAY REASONS TO BUY | Excellent picture quality Powerful audio |
AVOIDANCE REASONS | No HDR10+ support Not exactly inexpensive |
The Sony A90J OLED TV manages to be a compelling TV option for serious home cinema fans by combining Sony’s premium OLED picture performance with a powerful and direct sound system.
It includes Sony’s top-tier Cognitive Processor XR, Pixel Contrast Booster (for more intense image highlights), and an OLED version of the X-Motion Clarity feature, which Sony first develop for its FALD LCD smart TVs.
SPECIFICATIONS | Screen size: 49-inch, 55-inch, 65-inch, 75-inch, 85-inch Resolution: 4K Panel Type: QLED Smart TV: Tizen HDR: HDR10, HLG, HDR10+ |
BEST DEALS OF THE DAY REASONS TO BUY | Backlight array 4K Quantum image processor High peak brightness |
AVOIDANCE REASONS | No Dolby Vision Not the most visually appealing QLED |
The Samsung QN90A was one of the first 4K screens to use the company’s hyped-up Neo QLED panels, which have more light-emitting diodes per square inch than previous generations. As a result, the TV is brighter than before, if that’s even possible with Samsung, and it can display a richly satisfying range of colors.
All Neo QLED TVs feature the higher-end Neo Quantum Processor 4K, which analyzes images using a neural network for better HD upscaling and Motion Xcelerator Turbo+ for better motion handling – all of which have paid off for Samsung’s flagship screen.
SPECIFICATIONS | Screen size: 50-inch, 55-inch, 65-inch, 75-inch Resolution: 4K Panel Type: Quantum LED Smart TV: Android TV HDR: HDR10, HLG, Dolby Vision |
BEST DEALS OF THE DAY REASONS TO BUY | Bright and colorful at a low cost Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision HDR |
AVOIDANCE REASONS | The design is a little boring, and Android TV can be a little slow. |
The Hisense H8G Quantum Series is an excellent choice for those who want to spend little money but get a lot out of their smart TV.
At $700 for the 65-inch Hisense H8G after a massive price drop from its original RRP, it’s excellent value. The apps are easy to find and use, Google Assistant support is well-implement, and the technical specs rival much more expensive models, so you’re not stuck with a subpar set. Motion is also brilliantly smooth, with excellent performance in HD and 4K video despite a decrease in brightness when compared to competing QLED models.
SPECIFICATIONS | Screen size: 32-inch, 43-inch, 50-inch, 55-inch, 65-inch, 75-inch, 85-inch Resolution: 4K Panel Type: QLED Smart TV: Tizen HDR: HDR10, HLG, HDR10+ |
BEST DEALS OF THE DAY REASONS TO BUY | Unique artistic design The ambient Art Mode option is clever. |
AVOIDANCE REASONS | There is no Dolby Vision, and the sound is subpar. |
As televisions become larger, it is becoming increasingly important that they blend into their surroundings. For several years, Samsung has led the charge with its The Frame TV sets, but the 2021 edition finally sees the range measuring up to the best that Samsung has to offer.
The Frame TVs for 2022 are functionally as good to watch as it is fashionable to have around your home, displaying works of art in standby mode and with a customizable frame that makes it ideal for wall hanging.
Which TVs for 2022 technology is the most advanced? Which is the best LCD television? What is the best screen size for your living room? What is the distinction between LCD and LED televisions?
The solutions aren’t always obvious. Even for the most tech-savvy, purchasing a new television can be stressful because there are so many brands, features, screen sizes, colors, technologies, and flavors to choose from.
